Popular looter shooter Borderlands 3 may have ended “Farming Frenzy” events but there’s no rest for the wicked, as the game launched a new mini-event dubbed the “Rare Chest Riches” event to load players up with even more legendary gear for the fights to come. While the game has received mixed to glowing reviews, it’s interesting to watch Borderlands 3’s evolution as it delivers more substantial DLC to Season Pass holders.

The most recent Borderlands 3 DLC,  “Moxxi’s Heist,” brought back the fair Moxxi herself as well as Timothy Lawrence, a body double of the franchise’s most infamous villain, Handsome Jack. But Borderlands 3 is developing in a more complex manner of DLC development than some of its competitors. There’s no season-oriented approach from franchises like Destiny and Tom Clancy’s The Division intended to keep players in the game on a hook for several different months of slow content rollouts. Instead, Gearbox remains very fan-oriented, so far providing a fair mix of free content, entertaining loot drops, fresh cut scenes and humor.

The Rare Chest Riches event was announced on the official Borderlands 3 blog, coinciding with a new hot fix that’s intended to address feedback by implementing spawn rates, drop rates and Anointed rate increases to give players a more equal chance of not getting their heads handed to them by bosses. Meanwhile, the party starts today, January 30th at 9 AM Pacific and will run through February 13 at 8:59 Pacific. That also adds a pretty fair chance of there being a Valentine’s Day event of some kind to drop right after the most recent event closes down.

For gamers who like to mainline the Twitch game streaming platform, Gearbox is also upping the ante. According to the news, not only will the rarity of the loot inside all Rare Chests be increased, giving all players an equal shot at scoring Legendary items, but the increased rarity of loot will also apply when gamers are watching a streamer on Twitch. Both players need to have the ECHOcast Twitch Extension enabled - that’s going to require players to set up a SHiFT account over at the dedicated Gearbox SHiFT site and signing up for Twitch as well. After linking the accounts, viewers will get a one-in-four chance of claiming an item while watching, which will be delivered straight to the player’s mailbox in-game. New Twitch users can get a head start by checking out the official Borderlands Twitch Channel, where members of Gearbox’s “Stream Team” often prioritize opening Rare Chests.

If fans haven’t checked out Borderlands 3 yet, it’s becoming quite a bargain considering the amount of story, gameplay, customization, Easter eggs and collecting involved with each new DLC addition. The Rare Chest Riches event makes now an even better time to jump in and get acclimated with a better chance at some of the best loot the game has to offer.
