We asked our editors (current and past) to share their favorite moments within the first three years. #HappyBirthdayBobCut
Danielle Wallis, former Creative Fashion Editor:
Memory 1: The Diptyque collab and party!
This project was incredible to be a part of. Not only did we partner with a major retailer in San Francisco, but we were able to conceptualize, art direct, style, and photograph our own creative imagery for the story. Then, the event at the boutique was a major success! We were nervous, thinking: “will anyone show up?” and oh yes, they sure did!!
Memory 2: Photographing the cover for Issue 2.
At the time, the team didn’t know we were shooting the cover—we were just going out and doing what we love! It was an incredible day—warm temperatures and clear blue skies in the Bay Area. For the styling, I was able to work with garments from local vintage stores—something Bob Cut honors that is rare to see in other local publications. A week or two after the shoot, I was so excited to share the news with photographer Danielle Rueda—we made the cover of the magazine!!

Anthony Rogers, Editor in Chief/CEO:
Memory 1: Any and all team outings.
One of the best things about my job and working the past three years is getting to see my team, friends, and loved ones. Getting them to smile, laugh, or work on interesting projects makes my heart soar.
Memory 2: Our first community event.
Only 6 months into Bob Cut, we decided to throw a community event in the East Bay (this was from four sites ago, so we don’t have the images anymore). I was very nervous, our team consisted of Danielle Wallis and I, and she can tell you: I was a wreck. We held the event at our friends’ former gallery space and that’s how our relationship with Boba Guys, ODSY Workshop, Somi Apparel, and Mute by JL came to be. In a surprising turn of the tide, we held a successful party for 30 people. I thought no one knew of us BUT it was a great first experience.
Tin Dinh, Digital Designer:
Memory 1: First time in drag.
This was one of my favorite days of 2017. I will never forget sitting in a chair of 3 hours, seeing and learning make up being applied on my face, and walking out in public in daytime drag. It was a fun way to escape myself and put on a character. I have a brand new respect for drag queens.
Isabella Welch, Associate Editor:
Memory 1: An Afternoon with Gustav Klimt.
Gustav Klimt’s famous painting, The Kiss, hung above my bed all throughout college, a reminder of all the beautiful, romantic, and inspiring art out there to be loved and appreciated. To my extreme excitement, the Legion of Honor gave Bob Cut the opportunity to preview Klimt and Rodin’s collection alongside the Bay Area’s press community this past fall. I love that we can be involved in the art scene—both classic and modern—of San Francisco.
Matt Charnock, Managing Editor:
Memory 1: Stepping up at Bob Cut.
This past year with Bob Cut has been something of a litmus test for me, seeing if there was truly a center space for narrative and branding could coexist, hand in hand. I’m delighted to now know there is—and it’s wide and expansive and endlessly promising.
Danielle Rueda, Contributing Photographer:
Memory 1: Issue two’s cover.
Bob Cut is one of those passion projects that people always talk about. It was born out of love and ambition and it wanted to not only entertain the bay area but also serve it’s needs. From covering innovative local product and food to deeper issues political issues, Bob Cut has become such a beacon for those who read it. My favorite memory is when we shot this cover story for the Issue 2 Summer Digest. I was so honored to be featured in a magazine that celebrated local talent. I feel like it stands for everything that Bob Cut is—effortless, beautiful, and real.
