Although crossplay is currently not confirmed for the Blizzard RPG (we’re still too far out for that), two key members of the dev team commented on the functionality in two separate interviews.
In a hands-on preview from The Telegraph, which sheds light on the title’s gameplay, visual effects, and more, Blizzard Co-Founder and Diablo 4 Executive Producer Allen Adham had this to say about Diablo 4 crossplay:
The quote comes in a section where Telegraph writer Tom Hoggins plays through a Diablo 4 quest. They are met with meetup cues pointing to a different section of the game’s “contiguous” world.
Another quote hinting at Diablo 4 crossplay comes from Venturebeat interview with Lead Systems Designer David Kim and Lead Lighting Artist Sean Murphy. When asked if Diablo 4 will have crossplay functionality across PC and console, Murphy says:
While Adham’s quote is a bit more enthusiastic and Murphy’s a tad more cryptic, it’s clear that the development team has at least had conversations regarding Diablo 4 crossplay. Whether such functionality makes it into the final product remains to be seen.
Hopefully, we’ll know more about crossplay before the game releases, which is still some time off. Following the game’s Blizzcon reveal, Diablo 4 Game Director Luis Barriga said the RPG wouldn’t release in the near future, or even “Blizzard soon.”
In the meantime, stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Diablo 4 news and information as it breaks. Aside from requiring an “always online” connection, we know that Diablo 4 will bring back customization via talent trees, skill points, and rune words.
