Beyonce and Jay-Z skipped the Golden Globes red carpet, but ended up quietly stealing the show. Even though the couple was in attendance not on the red carpet, the two were spotted at the ceremony, proving that they are indeed royalty in the entertainment industry.
Award season is officially here. Grammy Award-winner Beyonce was nominated for Best Original Song for her song “Spirit” from Disney’s live-action Lion King remake. Beyonce has received a total of four Golden Globe nominations over the last few years. Back in 2007, she was nominated for Best Actress for her part in Dreamgirls and two Best Original Song nominations for “Listen,” which was also from Dreamgirls, and “Once In a Lifetime” from the movie Cadillac Records.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z decided to forgo their photo opportunity along the red carpet this year, even though the singer had been nominated for the Best Original Song. The two waited for the perfect moment, when SNL comedian Kate McKinnon gave a heartfelt speech to Ellen DeGeneres, who was honored with the Carol Burnett Award, according to People. Both Jay-Z and Beyoncé applauded with the rest of the audience, and as they stood, they uncovered their look for the 77th annual Golden Globes.
The “Empire State of Mind” rapper kept his look classic as he showed off his simple black and white tuxedo. His wife, on the other hand, dazzled in a dramatic custom-made dress by Schiaparelli Haute Couture, which shimmered in gold. The dress had a sinking back with a hint of a 1980s prom on account of its gigantic, puffy sleeves. Beyoncé’s hair was left simple as her 250 carats of diamond drop earrings showcased her impeccable makeup.
Beyoncé released the music video for “Spirit” back in July of 2019 to rave reviews, despite the film itself only earning mediocre reviews at best. The music video - which shows Beyoncé dancing in the desert and in front of a waterfall - not unlike the characters in the film - premiered right before she and her daughter, Blue Ivy, walked down the red carpet at the premiere of the Disney movie. Even though fans were disappointed that Beyoncé did not win (she lost to Elton John and Bernice Taupin for “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” from Rocketman), fans are positive that she will get another chance to shine and possibly bring home a golden statue sometime soon.
